Apples are a classic fall favorite, a highly abundant, adaptable, and crisp crop. This flexible fruit can be eaten whole, baked whole, or become a cobbler or crisp — even a fabulous fritter! But when grated to grace bread batter, apples become loaves to love, brimming with fresh fruit flavor and effusing ambrosia of aroma.
The apple, a harbinger of Fall, is loved by anyone at any age...and in almost any manner. You can enjoy them sliced and eaten raw or and dipped in peanut butter or caramel sauce. You can enjoy them as an amendment to salads, such as a wonderful Waldorf, or cubed into a savory stuffing. These sweet staples — or tart temptations depending on the variety — can be baked, fried, blended, and even folded into a fantastic filling for a Dutch apple pie. Everyone seems to have their favorite manner of enjoying this American classic.
Our favorite is found within the recipe for Chai Apple Bread. This bread blends all the appeal of apples with our world-renowned Masala Chai. Inspired by an ancient recipe from Northern India, our Masala Chai (meaning spiced tea) offers exotic and aromatic spices that are hand-blended and freshly ground.
Crafted with filtered water, Firepot Chai Spice Blend (an all-organic array of cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, ginger, black pepper, and cloves), organic cane sugar and organic black tea from India, lemon juice, and just a pinch of sea salt, our Chai adapts effortlessly to apples, enhancing their "core" taste with subtle spice notes.
Whether made with Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Macintosh, Honey Crisp, or any other member of the apple array, this bread will prove to be a cinnamon sensation. Enjoy it warm, right out of the oven, with butter or peanut butter spread on top, or a slather of cream cheese, or even festooned with a melted slice of cheddar. You can also reheat, for a morning treat, or sample a piece for a midday snack. However and whenever you partake, this recipe is sure to become the apple of your eye.
